Ruth Piper - Shadow Lands - An Immersive Tour

I invite you to join me on an unforgettable journey into a hidden landscape that I discovered deep within my soul. I believe that this is a landscape that we all share in what Carl Jung describes as our collective unconsious. And so, I challenge you! Let go of all your expectations and simply allow yourself to submerge into a new world, a lush, organic world, both familiar & strange… one that I have navigated alone and then returned to express in a series of paintings… which I believe, are reflections from the Underworld of our shadow selves.

I invite you to join me on an unforgettable journey into a sublime landscape of magic & mystery that I have discovered on my adventures deep into the forgotten wilds of the West Country. It is a land of memories & dreams, of epic dramas, and  quiet reflection. To be honest, I do not know whether these experiences are real or something that I have imagined, and perhaps this all exists only in our collective unconscious, patiently waiting to be stumbled upon by those brave enough to look from their inner eyes.

And so, I challenge you to let go of your expectations and to simply allow yourself to submerge yourself into this new world… a deeply evocative, organic world; one that is both familiar & strange… one that I have navigated alone for many years, and from which I have now returned to share with you, expressed with my complete devotion in a series of oil paintings… in the wondrous medium of oil on canvas.

The Cinematic Landscape is a series of nine paintings of places I hold dear across West Dorset. Each painting is intended to evoke deep emotions within you… and thus they will call you to through your feelings… some may seek that sense of excitement & anticipation as a storm races towards you across the valley below… or perhaps you instead be drawn to the serene calm of a lazy mid-summer’s day, as the sun sets behind a glowing horizon of pastel clouds.

“Amazing pieces!” Laurel Hart, Curator, Russell-Cotes Museum

My Journey to Landscape Painting

Growing up in rural North-Dorset, the countryside quickly became my playground, and as a young boy I began to express my insights through ‘en plein-air’ painting, sat at my easel… while my father sat across the field with his own canvas.

It’s hard to imagine now, but I grew up without a television, computer, or smartphone, and this gives me a unique lens through which I can explore these deeply emotional landscapes, blending the romance of my imagination with vivid, private moments of reflection, which I now share through my art.
