About Me
Who is Kit Glaisyer?
I’ve always been an Artist, and my journey of self discovery started with the guidance of my artistically gifted parents, who had moved to rural Dorset, in the southwest of the UK. So, I was born, and then grew up surrounded by nature. The countryside was my whole world.
Naturally, after school I went to Art College, first in Bournemouth, then Farnham, and I then went to London at the age of just 19 to properly start my artistic career.
I enjoyed five years as a successful Abstract painter in London, exhibiting at the Suzanne Ruggles Gallery on the Kings Road in Chelsea…
Before returning a few years later to the small town of Bridport, set a couple of miles from the sea, within one of the most beautiful & untouched parts of the West Country.
I now have my own Gallery in Bridport, and I also exhibit in London and across the UK. I particularly love to work on private commissions, which allows me to focus on simply making the best paintings I am capable of. Do get in touch if you’d like to discuss commissioning your own painting!
I have now been doing this for over 20 years, and thus my paintings are held in lots of public & private collections around the world from Paris, to Oslo, and Toronto.
My Painting Techniques
In my paintings, I use all manner of techniques: glazing, gradations of colour, drawing, and composition, as well as expressive brush work, impasto, and abstract mark-making.
Beneath this surface lies a silent narrative: a rich exploration of our relationship with the elements and the seasons, of intangible childhood memories, and adult romances, plus all the emotional complexities of our simple everyday lives.
These paintings are all oil on canvas or flax (which is a natural, unbleached linen). Oil painting is an incredibly versatile medium, and allows me to capture the greatest subtleties of light & atmosphere, which I can now achieve only because I’ve dedicated myself to completely mastering these techniques, inspired by the greatest artists, both past & present.
Hear my story in my own words…
So where do I fit into all this? What place does Art play in the modern world? And what place do I have, as an Artist, in the 21st Century?
I believe that Art is still hugely important as a vital expression of both our humanity and our creativity, and thus, I have always sought to earn my place in Art History by following my own, unique vision… inspired to accomplish my highest ambitions for paintings that will stand the test of time!
One of my great joys is Landscape Painting, and the Landscape Painting Tradition is one that goes back to the 17th century Dutch painters, and then on to the Romantic painters such as JMW Turner, John Constable, and Casper David Friedrich.
150 years ago, the tradition was uprooted by the Impressionists & Post-Impressionists, Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, and Vincent Van Gogh.
More recently, artists such as Gerhard Richter, Peter Doig, and David Hockney have offered their own, original contemporary insights into how artists see the landscape.
I believe it’s now time for a new language of landscape painting. My original approach integrates everything I’ve learned from Art History, up to the present day, and I’m now presenting a fresh new vision of what I believe art is capable of.
