The Landscape Painting Tradition is one that goes back to the 17th century Dutch painters, then to the Romantic painters such as JMW Turner, John Constable, and Casper David Friedrich.
150 years ago, the tradition was uprooted by the Impressionists & Post-Impressionists, Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, and Vincent Van Gogh.
Then, more recently, artist such as Gerhard Richter, Peter Doig, and David Hockney have presented a fresh, contemporary insight into how artists see the landscape.
I believe it’s now time for a new language of landscape painting. My original approach integrates everything I’ve learned from Art History, up to the present day, and I’m now presenting a fresh new vision of what art is capable of.

WHO AM I?
I am an Artist born in Dorset. I then went to London at the age of just 19 to start my career, before returning a few years later to the beautiful West Country, UK.
My journey started with the guidance of artistically gifted parents, followed by Art College in Bournemouth, then Farnham. Then five years as a successful Abstract painter in London, exhibiting at the Suzanne Ruggles Gallery on the Kings Road in Chelsea.
I’ve twice won ‘Highly Commended’ at the Marshwood Arts Awards, exhibited as Dorset Magazine Landscape Painter of the Year, and I was a Finalist in the Holburne Painting Prize. My work is held in private collections around the world, and I now have my own Gallery exclusively devoted to my deeply emotionally expressive paintings.
My Painting Techniques
In my paintings, I use all manner of techniques: glazing, gradations of colour, drawing, and composition, as well as expressive brush work, impasto, and abstract mark-making.
Beneath this surface lies a silent narrative: a rich exploration of our relationship with the elements and the seasons, of intangible childhood memories, and adult romances, the emotional complexities of our very existence.
My background growing up in the bosom of nature, without television, computer, or smartphone, gives me a unique lens through which I can examine these themes without prejudice, blending my imagination with my vivid experiences of the private moments that we can all share through art.
My Journey to Landscape Painting
Growing up in rural North-Dorset, the countryside quickly became my playground and teacher, and as a young boy I began to express my insights through ‘en plein-air’ painting, sat at my easel… while my father sat across the field with his own canvas.
This then led to Art College, then a move to London, where I became an Abstract painter. But it was only on my return to West Dorset that I once again connected with my love of the countryside and to my unique gift of insight & communication from the theatre of the landscape, through my art.
On my tour you’ll hear all about the elaborate process & patient techniques that I utilise in my paintings, many of which take me several months, even years to make.
You can also step back to view each work from afar, from the other side of the 300 sqm Gallery, and then allow the paintings to draw you in with their infinite subtleties of light, colour, and tone…
In this unique Tour of my Cinematic Landscapes, you can explore this exhibition in your own time, as often as you want. You can get up close to every painting, see how they’re painted, really analyse the brush work, see how I use all the delightful tricks of oil paint to illuminate & enliven the surface… and to create paintings that take you somewhere you’ve NEVER been before!
